Default thought of the day

I'm just reading a post about a new person just starting a tank and it turning white and a cloudy then at the end of the thread I read there were damsels in it and inside my head popped the whole "cycling a tank with or without a fish". some people say "yea, whatever, they're only damsels" when the other side go livid and go "NO DON'T USE FISH TO CYCLE, IT'S CRUEL AND INHUMANE". Then another one of the many voices in my head goes to me..what's worse, cycling a tank with a silly little damsel...or putting a regal tang in a 29 gallon tank...? People do that and nobody really seems to mind anymore. Keep in mind I'm not a member of the tang police department, it's merely a thought of how funny people and their morals are..it just got me thinking.

I understand what you are saying, but this newbie with the damsals was only going by a sales person's advice. If it wasn't for picking up a good book,I would have probaly took the same advice(not realising ) when I was in one of our local fish stores buying gear to set up my first tank.

To me , it's not so much the threat to the "silly little damsel", it's trying to remove "silly little damsel" when it kills all subsequent fish that you put in the tank

If I had the $$ to do a really large tank I'd love to have a school of damsels. In a modest tank though I see no place for them. I don't cycle with them and I don't want to deal with them. Saw a breeding pair of Domino Damsels at the LFS, they offered to give them to me, I thought.. crap... that's like raising Aptasia or Rock Anemones to those in the know.
