Default MH diy

this may seem like an odd question but could you modify a regular lamp to run a mh bulb if it has a mogul base on it such as this one... http://www.hellolights.com/methal175wat2.html and if not why ?

A Mogul base is much much larger than a regular light socket. Its about twice the size.

No you can't and it is not because of the size of the socket, that can be worked around. It is because you need a ballast made to run a MH as they don't run off normal household current and voltage. so with out the ballast it is a no go. Also they put out a ton more heat than a normal bulb so it would melt common fixtures.
