Default Cameras again...what's for me?

We got the dreaded phone call today...the $1500 Sony was dearly departed.

Not wanting to spend a huge amount right now on a camera, we would like to get something in the $300-$400 range that has macro capabilities and a rechargeable battery.

We are looking at the Nikon Coolpix 5100. Any comments?

Can't help you much in brands or cameras now Emily, I have been out of the reading loop to long on them, but if you can get one that has a viewfinder you can swivel to different angles it is awsome for top down pics like Jamie does. I think the cool pics do that but not sure.

Two thumbs up for the coolpix. I've had the earlier model now for ~5 years. The newer model is basically the same, with a few improvements.
Approaching 15,000 pictures and no service required yet.

Just E-mailed you a pic from the $400 Fuji E510. Seems to be a good value camera.

Default 56K Warning

No Problem. I was worried about the quality of macro shots until i actually took some. Its and awesome little camera. Since macro function seem to be the test on all digi's:

Just to show you how macro these actually are:

The only thing i did was crop the full sized photo.
A motion shot:
