Overflow for a new build
I am in the early stages of planning a new tank build and investigating the various options for overflow systems.
My current system is an external, custom made system which works very well, but I want to go with something less expensive and easier to deploy. I have done some reading on Ghost Overflow systems and would like to consider it for the new tank which will be somewhere between 220 to 300 gallons using 3/4" glass. Does anyone in Canada sell or make these Ghost Systems systems? Thanks! VicB. |

Reef Supplies sells one. I have them installed on two different client tanks - one is about 130 gallon, the other is about 240 gallons. The overflow works well for these tanks with a Herbie-style drain installed. It takes a bit of fine tuning to make them quiet when there is a lot of flow going through them. The bigger tank has a Quiet One 6000 return pump for flow reference for you.

Thanks for the quick response, Mindy.
Great. I deal with ReefSupplies all the time, I'll give Ray a call later. I had a quick look on their WEBsite and they say up to a max of 5/8" glass thickness. Based on your installations, is there enough bulkhead thread that it would tolerate thickness up to 3/4" glass? Thanks again for the reply. VicB. |

The unit you're looking @ on Reef Supplies is made by Elite Aquatics, correct?
I believe they can special order a unit for you with longer bulkhead threads. Contact Ray and he will let you know. I'm currently running an EA unit and think it's great. Much less money than Synergy Reef too. Keep in mind though that SR is coming out with a new box. Have a look online. |

Yes I have it installed on 3/4" glass. It works, but there isn't a lot of thread threaded. Longer bulkheads would be a good option if possible.

Mindy,
Just wondering, on the 240 gallon that you have the Elite Aquatic System on, you mentioned that you were using a Quiet One 6000 pump. What do estimate your flow rate is? The EA units are rated for 1500 gph. Thanks, VicB. |
