Default SWC 160 Skimmer Issues

I bought a new pump for my SWC 160 (not the cone one) a few months ago. When I purchased the new pump, the amount of water it pushes through seems to be a lot more so I had to put in a stand or it would flood the Skimmer cup.
I cleaned it out recently and now it floods the skimmer cup regardless. I can't seem to slow down the flow. Any ideas on how to fix this? Could I have put it back together wrong or there is a seal missing?
Thanks,
Patrick

My SWC skimmer is controlled by a grey vertical tube that opens/closes the flow rate. That's how I control the water level in the skimmer/skimmer cup.

Maybe a silly question but...Do you have the right impeller/needle wheel in the pump?
