LED for FW Cube tank
http://www.aquatraders.com/LED-Fresh...12-p/56201.htm
Used to have regular flourescent 8W light on my 9 gal cube fresh water planted tank. Got this 12" LED few month ago and my plants like it so much that i have a flower poping out! My plants did good before as well (CO2 injection) but never had flowers before. Nothing changed other then the light. At any rate i thought i'd let you guys know. Amazingly this light is only 2W or so total (!) each LED is only 0.06W. They say less then one watt but 33x0.06= 1.98 so less then 2W. I dont know, LED is still so new so I am hasitant to buy for the reef. Just visited King ED Pet yesturday they have 180W LED fixtures (2W each LED) looks good, Ron said tese lights have been there for 6 month now. Corals there look good and i did like the color Bluish/White. Remind me to take a picture of my flower later. |

Ok here you go, sorry pics are blurry because i didn't use flash to show more natural colors but shaky hands result in blurry images.
Shrimps help a lot with keeping algae under control. I have HOB filter as well as air pump (not used right now only in summer) and therefore water serfice is being agitated but Co2 is not lost due to its (Co2) injection in to canister filter intake. . . . . . Two hockey pack LED's are from Walmart they are 2Watt each and 6105K as per label. They have questionable reflectors so i dont know if they are any help, i had them long before together with fluorescent light. So again nothing changed accept 9W fluorescent was replaced with 1.9w Beam Work LED's . . A little flower popped out top right of the picture. . . another small red plant showed up. bottom right . Taitian moon black sand (that keeps PH high) But i inject Co2 in to external canister filter intake so Co2 gets totally dissolved inside the filter . . . with flash . . Full tank shot . Here are the fertilizers that i use. . Shrimps help a lot with keeping algae under control. . Last edited by RuGlu6; 01-29-2012 at 05:30 PM. |

Over my freshwater tanks, I use screw-in LED bulbs that are 6w total. Superbright but each bulb has 84 tiny emitters. Its bright enough that 2 of them are causing my Key Lime tree to flower indoors in the middle of winter and my fig tree has grown lots of 6" leaves and developed a baby fig (also in middle of winter and it was just a bare "twig" a month ago).

Nice looking planted tank! Are those just regular cherry shrimp or the painted fire variety?
Also, where did you pick up that little LED fixture from? Thanks.

Nice setup.
I used have a 10w 6000K LED flood light for my 5 gallon high tech with HC and DHG, growth was good but color to my eyes wasnt as natural as CFL. If I'm going to have that 5g high tech FW setup again I think I will go for 2 CW 3W with 2 WW 3W Cree, 80 degree optic, separate dimming. ug |
