I need a new book...Any suggestions?

Well time to quit reading online, my eyes are taking a beating from the many hours i have spent reading on the aquarium topic. So what I am looking fo is a nice reference manual that I can use. Preferalbly one that is more recent. I am planning on a reef setup with live rock and sand as well as a refugium/sump/protein skimmer, so I would like a book to have some information on that system. I also would like information on keeping fish and inverts, and possibly even clams and some of the harder to keep stuff (I see that in the distant future). So anyone have some recomendations??? I am open to a few good books, will help balance out all of the other texts that are cluttering up my office, and heck I definately will enjoy reading reefkeeping books more than dry medical texts. Thanks.

I like "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" as a good all around book. It contains lots of good detail on set up and is relatively current. It is not detailed with regards to corals but still discusses the basics.

I would not recommend "The New Marine Aquarium", although it is a relatively new book it is pretty light on most topics and does not contain nearly as much information as the above title does.

ok, I'ma newb but this is what was recommended to me:

Conscietious Marine Aquarist, by Bob Fenner

Reef Aquarium Vol. 1&2, by Delbeek & Sprung

Aquarium Corals, by Eric Borneman

Sand Bed Secrets, by Ron Shimek

Live Sand Secrets, by Bob Goemans

I have the Delbeek & Sprung series and I like them. I kind of wish I also had the Fossa & Nilsen series but both series was out of my $$$ reach so I made a choice and went with D&S. But the F&S series is supposed to be really really good too so you might want to look into that.

After that it kind of depends on your interests too. There are good coral specialty books (e.g., Borneman, Calfo), clownfish (Wilkerson), anemones (Fautin and Allen), clams (Knop).

I have the Knop book Giant Clams. I'm not sure what I think of it. It is still recommended as one of the definitive texts on tridacnids, but it is a wee bit old ('93? '94?) and it is written in German so the English version is a translation and there are typos and other artifacts as a result of a hasty translation. But definitely a good read if you're looking for way more information than you can digest in one sitting (and all about clams).

The next book I will probably buy for myself will be the latest one from Calfo and Fenner, or the "Ultimate Marine Aquariums" by Paletta... There's a review for both books in the Sept '03 "Advanced Aquarist" ... link: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issu...2003/media.htm

I haven't seen the book yet but Jamie's tank was featured in the Ultimate Marine Aquariums book.

you know one I bought and still like as it covers almost every method of filtration and set up with out bias is "Marine reef aquarium hand book" by Dr. Robert J. Goldstien. he basicly touches on everything and give pros and cons and lets you make up your mind instead of telling yuo what to do.

Tony I was looking at Ultimate reef aquariums today and I like it, although the tanks in there are all on the exotic side it sure does give you inspiration. I'll see if that one you mentioned is available here and if so what the price is, maybe I can borrow it and look through.
