Default Moguls/HQI

I used to have a 3x250w mogul fixture and was running it for approx. 8 hrs a day. I was noticing a fairly large increase in electricity bill each month. Since I was only growing soft corals, I decided to go with T5s and so far I have had no problems. I do miss the shimmering effect however.

I was wondering, are HQis more energy efficient? Also, just throwing it out there, being in BC, how much do you who own metal halides pay (approx) per month?
