I kind of like the idea. I think it would be more responsive compared to just having the heater in the sump/tank. I've been trying to figure out how to DIY one. Maybe a uniseal that would hold the heater in 1.5-2" PVC piping? drill a hole in an end cap (screw on for service), put in the uniseal, squeeze in the heater. voila!
