another new tank

I just setup another tank.72x20x20 external overflow.I got the tank from golds,starfire front.Looks pretty nice.I just got finished plumbing and filling it up.No leaks!

Err, did you put a valve on one of the drains?

I only put a shut off valve on the pump.Was I suppose to put one on the drain pipe.

Yeah, you put one there to throttle back the drain. It makes the overflow box virtually silent.

You can still get one on there. I'll draw a quick diagram.

Okay, so the idea here is that you run a stand pipe that nears the water level of the main display. The other drain just gets a grill. With the valve installed, you throttle the drain down until the water level rises just short of the standpipe. Bam, instant silent overflow with the added benefit of zero bubbles in the sump.

Do you have the grill line and the standpipe line tied together after the valve before it goes into the sump ? Do you recomend a length or a specific distance ? Could you add a T below the top of the standpipe to increase flow ? Thanks.
