Drilling holes for huge FOWLR??
I'm helping someone set up a 300g Fowlr, with a 180g below tank sump & perhaps a 225g secondary sump/reservoir in the garage. The main display will be 8' by 2' by 30" tall. In designing the system, should I go with internal or external overflows, as well as what size & number of holes for those overflows & return pipes? He would like to end up with a well stocked FOWLR with perhaps a few hardy corals.
Thanks, Anthony |

depends on how much you want to put through the sumps. on the tank im having built i put 3 2" holes in an overflow box for about 6000 gal/hr sump turn over.

If it were me Id go with 2 x 1.5" holes. (1 main and 1 backup)
Keep the turnover in the sump lower and crank up the flow with a CL. Then run a larger Ampmaster or Sequence pump on a closed loop with multiple returns. Maybe even 2 loops.. |
