![]() These 2 things started growing in my tank about 2/3 weeks ago. I have not been able to find anything similar from google etc.
I am hoping to ID them , so that I know if I need to get rid of them or not. The "mushroom" looking thing is growing in a"swirl" , it is soft/rubbery to the touch. It is about 1/2" round. The other pic is of some sort of green plant. Sorry for the poor quality pics. I only have a phone cam. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() Not sure on the first one, but the green plant/algae I think is Halimeda

Thanks. It does appear to be Halimeda. Comes from hawaii. I wonder if it tagged along with my Hawaiian live substrate. |

![]() Yea that other dude is correct on first pic. It's not harmful at all but yet on one of my clients tank its growing on a green poccilopora and killing it a bit. Apparently it uses up a bit of calcium.
The second.....well myself I'd try to kill. Just my opinion. Some people call it a rock anemone but I consider it a pest and lean towards aptasia. Unless your trying to identify that other thing in the pic, I had something similar but it was red and kind of like some sort of bubble algae and can't help you there. |

![]() Halimeda is a nuisance. It grows pretty fast and sucks up calcium and carbonates. It's tough to get rid of when you want to.
The second one is not a rock anemone, but I'm not sure what it is. It looks like Lobophora in growth pattern, but maybe it is a sponge. You do know there is an Aiptasia below it though, right? |
