Nothing like hearing water pouring out of your very large (230g) fish tank to kick your butt into high gear

Thank god it wasn't a crack (as I first feared) and it was just due to my overflow getting blocked up causing the water to pour out over the top of the tank. One quick cleaning and its back to normal.

Yuck, never a good sound. *thankfully* I haven't yet had water pouring from my tank onto the floor, but I know where you're coming from on the "tuned hearing" standpoint. It seems every other day I hear something new in the house that my brain attributes to some several hundred gallons of impending doom. Usually turns out to be a kid flushing a toilet, or a cat drinking water, or who knows what -- my wife thinks I'm crazy (in the moment my heart is suffering years of panic & distress)


Good reminder to check my overflows though, thanks!

Also to everyone -- when was the last time you did a power failure test??

Yes that was almost another issue, because the water got backed up fresh RO water dumped in and almost flooded the sump when I turned off the pump. Was about 1/2 an inch from the top

Oh yes I've been thru that. "what IS that sound mom? I cant hear it ....OMG it's WATER!!!!!!!! never ran so fast in my life.

Probably a good idea to put an float switch on the top of your tank with alarm / email and shutoff the return pump with controller, if your setup is prone to overflowing like that.

Do you not have an emergency overflow pipe in case your main one develops a blockage,
Eg. Herbie system?
