Fate of wild horses in hands of BLM, Colorado buyer

The Bureau of Land Management faced a crisis last spring. The agency protects and manages herds of wild horses that roam the American West, rounding up thousands each year to keep populations stable. But by March, government pens and pastures were nearly full. Efforts to find new storage space had fallen flat. So had most attempts to persuade members of the public to adopt horses. Without a way to relieve the pressure, the agency faced a gridlock that would invite lawsuits and potentially cause long-term damage to the range.

So the BLM did something it has done increasingly over the last few years. It turned to a little-known Colorado livestock hauler, Tom Davis, who was willing to buy hundreds of horses at a time, sight unseen, for $10 a head.

It sounds like a mash-up of Indiana Jones' plots, but German researchers say a heavy Buddha statue brought to Europe by the Nazis was carved from a meteorite that likely fell 10,000 years ago along the Siberia-Mongolia border.

This space Buddha, also known as "iron man" to the researchers, is of unknown age, though the best estimates date the statue to sometime between the eighth and 10th centuries. The carving depicts a man, probably a Buddhist god, perched with his legs tucked in, holding something in his left hand. On his chest is a Buddhist swastika, a symbol of luck that was later co-opted by the Nazi party of Germany.

We were contacted via email a few weeks ago by a photographer in Germany who was recently in Greece on holiday. While that does sound pretty mundane, the image file she attached to her email was anything but, at least to my "not professionally trained in digital imaging" eyes, it was the best "UFO" image I've had emailed to me in years.

As I'm sure you can imagine, we get lots of UFO images sent to us here at AboveTopSecret.com via email. I always give those a bit more credence because the person sending them is obviously not trying to get massive attention for their image like they would if they simply posted it here in the ATS "Aliens and UFOs" Forum for the world to see.That typically means we're not dealing with a hoaxer looking to crank up awareness in the hope of a payday.

That said, these images usually end up being fairly obvious birds, bugs, planes, etc.. upon basic examination by our crew, that, or, they're lonely lights in a dark sky that could be anything.

Not this one.

A Cook County judge dismissed charges against 92 Occupy protesters arrested in a Chicago park last October, ruling that the city’s overnight park curfew violated the First Amendment and was being enforced selectively.

Associate Judge Thomas M. Donnelly noted that police had arrested hundreds in a crackdown on the protesters’ encampment when the park closed at 11:00pm local time, but had not moved against the 500,000 people who came to see Barack Obama after he won the presidency in 2008.

“The city arrested no one at the Obama 2008 presidential election victory rally, even though the Obama rally was equally in violation of the curfew,” Judge Donnelly wrote.

The judge added that the selective enforcement of the curfew, combined with the Chicago Police Department’s harassment of protesters in the days leading up to the arrests, supported “a finding that the city intended to discriminate against defendants based on their views.”

Judge Donnelly threw out the arrests, and slammed the city for denying the protesters their First Amendment rights. Citing the park’s long history of political rallies dating back to Abraham Lincoln, Donnelly quoted early city leaders who resolved in 1835 that the land that became Grant Park ”should be reserved for all time to come for a public square, accessible at all times to the people.”

Simple....let them run free.
Wild life does best when left alone and untouched.
But greedy burger makers want these lands for cows (later to be killed as well) so,... beautiful wild horses became victims of $ making and corruption.

Unfortunately our foot print won't allow it. Unmanaged wild life pose big problems. Twenty five years ago you would never see a moose anywhere near Regina, now they tranquilize them in the streets. The wild horses are a pretty picture but cost a great deal, even the people that protect them admit there is a problem... cull the stallions and it might get numbers down

I love good discussions and I respect your opinion, however mine is different.
With that kind of thinking will will be culling people soon.
it is our own fault, not the animals. With out peoples intervention they were doing just fine.
We cut the forest to build the house and then we call a street by the name of the trees that we cut.
If we want to claim the territory we have to be responsible for the animals that live on it.

Stop the war and there will be enough funds for peaceful projects. Instead we have boy scouts by the mall entrance and firefighters begging for change at the liquor store door, what a shame!
