Default I think I'm going to be sick...

After my last strawberry shortcake bit the dust, I thought I would finally try another one that's bigger as my logic states that it's been stable for a longer period of time, lol. Didn't even get the chance to put it into my tank, right when I opened up the box, I knew something wasn't right from the smell that came lofting out. I was hoping it would be the blue tipped milli I got but it was crystal clear in the bag and it's polyps were extended. Picked up the ssc and my knees buckled. It was packed really good with lots of water and 4 thick bags. It even arrived hours before my last one did. I'm in disbelief, at the the freebies that were thrown in look nice...

Purple haze and rainbow monti

Also there in a purple tenius but it's super bleached, like the milli is, so no point taking a pic of it. :banghead:

If I ever get another ssc, I'm going to make sure that a few reefers with crazy setups get a few seed frags just in case the mother decides to go *poof* again.

I could have corrected that logic....the larger the harder to ship for sure.

Where you getting this box of goodies from?

Agreed! I'd buy 4 frags before shipping a large colony. The only advantage to a large colony is chopping it up for frags to recover costs. But shipping them is a biatch!

What makes the larger pieces harder to ship or even the smaller pieces? I've never had a piece that size shipped before but I've had tiny 1/2" frags not make it. Would temp. be the main factor of them dying? I really wanted a nice center piece on my sps side of my tank as most pieces are still mostly frag sized. I'm not the most patient guy which is killer on this hobby, which is why I tried to get the biggest piece I could find. That way the only thing I need to do is prune, lol. Maybe I should have stuck with lps instead of dipping my toes into this whole mixed reef tank.

I bought it from a store in the states, it was the nicest piece I've seen for a while so I took the chance on it. :banghead:

The bigger they are, I find, the more settled they are in their habitat. I've seen large colonies moved a few inches in a tank RTN overnight. Larger pieces have more O2 demands, and once anything at all goes wrong in the bag, it escalates quickly. Not saying you can't ship bigger pieces, but they are less tolerant. For a large center piece, you'd be better off finding something local that would be easy to move.
