Default Lighting questions

Okay two question.

Are the Coralife PC hoods any good. I have some small lighting requirements for a refugium maybe some soft corals as well. Do they stand the test of time?

And

If you needed a 175watt MH bulb 10K where would you buy it and what brand?

Thanks

Chris

I personally think the actinics PC from Coralife is too "purple", I used them on my old 120 and 50, and I finally sold them because I didn't like the color. You can also try some T5s......

you can get PFO 150W/250W HQI pendent complete system from JL, comes with 6500K, 10000K, or 20000K double ended boulb.....they have 175W MH systems too.....

you can also check with Ocean Aquatics, they may have a used ballast setup.

I have two of the Coralife fixtures. A 36", 2X96W fixture, and a 24", 2X65W fixture. I have found them to be very good.

I was looking at the 2X65 that you have. I have one DIY hood and I just don't feel like doing another. I want something quick and easy. What type of bulbs do you use. Actnic?

My 2X65W has the original bulbs ie. one 10,000K, and one actinic. Of all the colour renditions I have tried over time that combination is my favourite. BTW J&L's price is very good, and MOPS matched that.

I also use the optional legs you can get for the fixtures.

Thanks Bob, I will consider that. Does anyone think it is safe to have MH bulbs shipped. I talked to a local supplier and they wanted 210.00 for a 175 watt 10000k bulb. I laughed! JL has the Ushio bulbs for 109.99. Is it safe to have this item shipped!

Me again. I have had a couple of MH bulbs shipped to me. One came from the East, and the other from Winnipeg. They both arrived without any problems. I also shipped one back to Venki, and it arrived without problems.

It's up to whomever you buy the lamp from to pack it up well. I've bought from J&L, SWC and from several places in the U.S. and never had an issue. Most places know what they're doing.

J&L in particular is known for how well they will pack up their stuff, livestock and drygoods. No worries on the shipping from them.

I have had bulbs shipped from Los Angeles, Washington and Vancouver - never had one broken. Everything I have bought over the net has come amazingly well packed.

J&L packs things extremely well.

I have also put a HELL of a lot of styrofoam and cardboard in the local dump transfer station!! They are beginning to recognize me!
