Default Coralife Aqualight LED Retrofit

Mike from Innisfail came by to show me his neat Coralife retrofit for LEDs. Good work Mike thanks for the photos.

Everything fits nicely inside the Coralife Aqualight hood.

What size of coralife is that and how did he attach the heatsinks?

No fans correct. That whole unit is metal so should dissipate heat pretty good. You could install some 40mm fans on the end to draw air in and over the heatsinks if you wanted.

If you look closely on the second pic you can see he drilled some small holes in the top of the unit and got some bolts to go through them and through the heatsink. Its a really neat and tidy job. Looks really well and you should see the light output haha way more than the old PCs or T5s that would be in there.

I think that one is the 30 inch coralife one.

I have a similar setup, a couple same size modules with three of the same size modular LED chips on the same size heat sink. Just for reference without fans they exceed max service temp, was also hoping to avoid fans but no go. And sealing them in a metal fixture won't help, probably make it worse. Adding fans would be a good idea. HTH

Good to know I will let him know. He was going to using the existing fans in the hood but not sure what happened to that.

Yup they must have exceeded max temp...3 burnt bulbs already. Turned down the dimmers and removed the acrylic strip for now. Hood is alot cooler, putting a glass top over the tank until I can get fans.
