Default Vinegar

Jack,
What does the Vinegar do? I am thinking about going to Kalk, as the ARAGmilk can't seem to get me above 380 and all I have are a bunch of snails and softies in there right now.

Cheers,

Al

Well I guess Lostmind sent you a link.. but I'll explain why I do it. Saves you from reading all that.

Adding vinager to your kalkwasser mix does a few things for you:

It dissolves more calcium out of the solution, lowers the pH so you can add more to your tank, and also creates free carbon which your dinitrifying bacteria use to convert nitrate into nitrogen ect.

That's basically it. I've done it all the time. Watch the ammount of vinager you use. I use 10ml/gal but look up how much you should use.

Jack, is that per topup or per total tank volume?

Per top-up. Glad you brought that up.

So in my 5g of top-off I use 50ml of vinager.
