More of a sandbed
In my 50g tank I have about 1" coverage with aragonite. Is a one inch sand bed deep enough or should I be trying to increase that?

I guess it depends on what you're trying to accomplish, if you're after de nitrification I'd go for another 1/2 to 1 inch. I'm not sold on DSB anymore, got good de nitrification with a bit less than 2 inches of sand bed so that's what I'll stick with again.
