Default Light at Quickgrow..

I was at Quickgrow today picking up some part for my lighting and the guy was showing me a new bulb they got in. It was a 125w PC, and it was 25000k It looked like a actinic bulb. It was $100... Would something like that have the same properties as a actinic or is it something different all together?

I have both the 125 W 25K and the 6.4K in my tank, I like the combination. They are also available in 50 W. I also have actinic bulbs and to my eyes there is very little difference.

Do you have any pictures of your tank with that combo?

Sorry to bug you guys, but does anyone have a definition for actinic versus just blue. Or is this just more of a myth 25000K should in reality be quite blue.

If you are building a new top like Ross did the bulb is not bad in price. If you want to go another route, I have 96W tubes in my fixture, and the 36" tubes are around $50.00. So whatever works best for you.

It was very blue! They have one running in the window. You can see it from outside. It looked just like a actinic, that's why I was wondering what the difference would be? Any actinic bulb I've seen was rated by the color wave? (420?) but I have never seen the color temp (K) on one. Or, is there even a relationship between the two?

Well Walter IMHO blue is blue is blue or some variation of same. I have three tubes right now that are supposed to be actinic. All have a different color. What really is actinic I want to know

Actinic light has a spectral peek of 430nm so any light that has a hugh spike at 430ish nm is concidered actinic if that is the majority of its light.
