Default Quarantine tank

I'm interested in what everyone is doing for quarantine tanks (if you use one). What size tanks, what are you using for filtration, do you keep it running or just set it up when you need it (if so how do you keep the filter alive)? What procedures do you follow (duration, meds, low salinity, etc)?

Thanks

Do you keep it running all of the time or just when you need it? If you shut it down do you try to keep the filter alive in your main tank?

I don't have any fish right now but I learned my lesson last year when I lost my entire tank of fish to one sick fish. I've got a 20 gallon tank set aside that I'll use as a hospital tank when I start to buy fish. When I need it I'll just mix up some water and then draw 20 gallons out of my main tank, then just replace it, I figure an extra water change wont hurt. I don't use UV on the hospital tank though.

What do you do to avoid cycling if it has not been running for awhile? I have read that some people keep their filter (small power filter, sponge filter) running in the main tank or sump to keep the biological filter alive. If time is not an issue I guess you could set it up and wait for the cycle to complete.

I have a 25 gallon QT which I keep running all the time. I use Fluval 204 and AquaClear 150 for mechanical filtration and a small fluidized bed filter for biological filtration. I have 2 small pieces of coral and a percula clownfish to keep the cycle going. I would never put new fish directly into my main tank.

Regards

Where do you put the percula and the coral when you need the QT tank? I've considered that as well but I didn't want to bother with having to move fish etc, I did think about keeping a couple damsels/chromis in the QT tank and then just giving them back the the LFS when I needed the QT Tank.... I'm still thinking that's not the worst idea I've had
