![]() Hey I'm pretty new to the hobby, and I need some adivice on my filter media.. I'm currently using a fluval 205 and I need to know what media to use, when to change it, and how to change it to get the best results.
Thanks!! Last edited by mark1187; 12-08-2010 at 03:41 AM. |

![]() I tried running a fluval 404 on my salt tank, it worked ok for the first 6 or 8 months. Then I started getting alot of algae growth, I tried different media, no media, more cleaning of the filter and nothing helped. I removed the fluval and things turned around and started to get much better. I installed a couple of Koralias for flow instead.
SO the long and short is ditch the headache, I mean fluval. |

![]() I tell peeps at the shop to ditch all the media that it comes with and stuff it with live rock.....leave the top tray open for a carbon or chemi-pure or stuff like that......the problem with most "medias" is they saturate very quickly in a saltwater environment.....so unless you are religious about changing it and keeping it clean they can end up leaching nitrates back into the tank....
