![]() Hello I have recently started a Nano reef tank and have a small hair algae problem (I think). I have had the tank up and running for 26 days with 16 Lbs of live rock and 20 LBS of live sand. I was using tap water and have recently switched to RO water. I did a 15 % water change with the RO water and was wondering if I should also turn out the lights for two days or so.
Any suggestions. Thanks |

![]() if nothing is alive in your tank then go for it. but your tank is still very young. let it run its course. it will snuff itself out

![]() Remove whatever you can physically. Do you regular water change with ro/di water. Check your nitrate and phos. Keep those levels undetectable and your algae should go away eventually.

![]() thanks.
I will continue to do water changes and remove what I can from the rock. The other thing I found out is that low mg levels may contribute to algae growth as well and I just bought a test kit for mg and it is only 300ppm so I will slowly add supplements till I get the levels up to around 1250ppm. |
