Default Advice on how many LED's and Optics for 90 gals sps reef tank

Hi there,

I would like to start a project to make my own LED fixture with LED lights. I'm planing to setup a 90 gals sps tank. how many LEDs do I need to grow sps corals in a 90 gals reef tank?

What about optics? I'm thinking about 80 degree optics? what do you guys think?

Tank measures: 4ft Long, 2ft tall and 1 1/2f wide (front to back) so this tank is kind of deep I think.

Any advices from people that already did some LED work, would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Manny

Tough question unless you know what LED's you plan to use. I'm planning to build a fairly large LED light for my future tank and plan to use CREE LED's. I believe that for 24 inches deep you would be okay with 60-80 degree optics as long as you used enough lights. As for how many lights, again that depends upon the type of LEDs
