Default canister filter y/n?

Hi, everyone. I have recently got a 135 gallon tank with no sump. The tank will be reef. I was going to get a ocean clear canister filter but looking through some old postings it dosen't seem like that good of a idea now. Any suggestions would be great.

I used a fluval on a 55g. After i removed it, I noticed no difference other than my pulsating exina. It started to srivle p. I put carbon into my overflow, xenia is doing fine now. I think so long as you are changing the floss and carbon every 1-2 weeks there is no problem with them. You just have to keep up the maintence. IMO.

I use a Fluval 204 with a surface skimming attachment on my 50. Mainly because I don't have a skimmer, and need something to get rid of surface scum. I also use Chemipure, so I need a place to put that. It is also very easy to do maintenance on a Fluval. I don't use any of the supplied filter media except the foam though.
