Whiney Calgarians & Cheering for the Stamps

All summer long I've been listening to Calgarians whine about their weather. I'm out here right now and the weather could not be better: sunny and mild. I guess I brought our nice B.C. weather with me. (No need to thank me) Even took in a game at McMahon Stadium last night: felt pretty strange to cheer for the Stamps.

I find that with very few exceptions there are some very fickle fans in the larger municipalities. Whether you cheer for the "Stamps" or the "Leos" or the "Flames" or the "Canucks" or if you are really desperate and cheer for the "Leafs" or "Canadiens"

And you blame the weather or your horoscope there is always a reason other than the fact your team sucks or that they lose in the playoff's. I personally believe there is an alien conspiracy as to which teams win their perspective championships. I believe Wayne Gretzky and some of the rest of his teammates were definately from another galaxy, how else can you explain their Stanley Cup championships

. I mean Edmonton for cripes sake...I believe that these visitors have personal grudges against some teams as well, like the Canucks, I mean how else do you explain a team that has so much talent on paper turn to a real crapper of a team in the playoffs

. There are forces at work here people...be afraid, be very afraid, If Seattle wins the superbowl....run for your lives the end is near..

Not touching the football thing, if that's your thing, more power to you ..

But thanks for bringing the weather. Today was one of the nicest days we've had in a long, long, very long time. I enjoyed my downhilling bike ride this morning immensely.

So, it turns out that I may just be the whiniest of all!

I was hoping to do some reefer visiting during this trip to Calgary. Saturday night I find out that after a family luncheon Sunday I will have some free time before a birthday celebration dinner. Cool! I'll give Kien a call in the morning as he had graciously offered to get together if I had the time; then maybe off to Red Coral to see Kevin @ Doug.
6 am Sunday morning I wake up to a sore back? WTF! I've never had a back problem in my whole life! I gingerly move to the edge of the bed, swing my legs over and can't straighten up. I'm totally seized up! I can't stand up and the pain is taking my breath away. And now I have to pee! I'm alone downstairs in a bedroom and can't even call for help. Eventually, I can sort of do a bent-over duck walk with my hands on my knees. I finally get to the bathroom and manage to go before i pee myself. Ok, now what? I duck walk out the bedroom door and make my way to the bottom of the stairs where I yell for help. After a horrendous episode of my wife getting some pants on me I beg, borrow and steal some Tylenol 3. The wife runs out to the drugstore to get something for me. The pharmacist recommends Robaxacil. An hour after taking 2 of these nothing seems to be happening so I take another one. Twenty minutes later I'm floating away to Never-Never-Land and my fingers go numb and tingly. Uh-Oh! The wife goes back to the pharmacist who tells her I took too many. Ya Think? He tells her I'll probably be alright but if the numbness lasts much longer to go see a doctor.

So Sunday is a total write-off!

Monday morning we have to get up for our flight back home. The back is somewhat better but still freakin' hurts! I manage to get through the flight and land in Comox where my wife discovers she left her new coat in the Calgary airport. Of course!
Off to the ferry we go and finally get home, where I discover my computer is not working.

So, now I'm on Joan's laptop with several questions:

1. What the hell did I do to my back? It's quite a bit better but I want to make sure I don't ever have to go through that again. Someone mentioned a cold in the kidneys from sitting at the football game with no jacket on a cold night. Does this mean anything to anyone?

2. The computer on/off switch won't go off and there is no signal to the monitor. What does this mean?

P.S. I'm sorry Kien that I couldn't make it. Next trip out, (if I dare), I'll make sure to get together.

Sorry to hear about your back. The cold kidney thing doesn't make a lot of sense to me though particularly since it was .. well, not cold outside. Otherwise rational seeming people will happily sit in -25 to watch football and sometimes they're not even drunk whilst doing so.

The seats however ... I find are particularly uncomfortable and I will get back spasms after sitting in them too long. I'm wondering if you could have pinched a nerve especially if you've not had any prior problems. Another possibility is it could be a kidney stone or gall bladder stone. I had that over a period of a few weeks last year and it would literally drop me to the floor where-ever I was. Curiously it went away on its own before I was able to get it checked out.

I was going to say ya should have called ME too ya big doofus! Geez. I thought we were facebook friends and everything. Although if you needed help with peeing ... then I'm out. Kien can have that part allllll to himself.

I was just there last weekend and the weather was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! I was in AWE.....I'd been under the impression too that the weather was horrible..but I was LOVING the sun, blue skies....it was great! Got a chance to tour all the reef shops too and met some nice people!

Tony, I was kinda hoping to get together with You, Brett, Kien, etc. but my time was filled with family stuff: Two birthdays and an Anniversary party. Next trip out we will definitely get together.
