Volume of a Hexagon tank
Ok so I just bought a hex tank but dont know the volume and was wondering if anyone knew how to calculate it. The base is 2 ft, each side is 2 feet 5 inches high and 14'' wide. Anyone who is good at math and wouldnt mind helping out would be great, thanks

The advertised dimensions of a 60g hex is 27"Lx24"Wx28"H which sounds about right for your tank.

Well a 2' x 2' x 2' cube is 60g so I don't think a 2' wide hex tank that is 29" tall is also 60g.
Based on my calculations done on a scrap of paper (can't find my calculator right now and wanted the challenge of doing this freehand), your hex tank is just under 44.7 gallons, so call it 45g. Anthony

If each pane is 14" wide by 29" tall and the tank at its widest is 2' wide, then a cubish tank (2' x 2' x 29") would be 75g. (based on 2' cube being 60g and every extra inch of height adds 3 gallons to the total).
If each 2' side holds a 14" pane, then the missing sections would each be 5" x 12" x 14" (sorry for the poor graphics below). ....12" 12" .......___ ....../ \ ! 5" ..../14"\! ....!.....! 14" ....! ....! .....\.../! ......\/__ 5" There are 4 missing sections out of the 2' x 2' base to create the hex shape so that equals 2 x (5" x 12") surface area missing or 120 square inches out of a possible 476 sq. inches (24" x 24" base). This leaves you with 356 sq. inch surface area x 29" height = 10324 cubic inches. 10324 / 231 = 44.7 gallons (roughly) Hope that's not too confusing OP.

It depends if the 24 measurement is front to back or corner to corner. My math puts it at 64 if 24 is the width. But again, scrap paper, so my math could be wrong

The area of a hexagon = length of one side (14") squared x 2.6
Volume is area x height. Capacity in gallons = volume / 231 Therefore 14x14x2.6x28 = 14,268.8 cubic inches / 231 = 61.77 gallons This is probably based on outside dimensions so actual volume would be a few gallons less.
