It is possible that the owner really likes aiptasia and thought that they were quite novel, and thus allowed them to thrive. Kinda like how some people keep Xenia

way back when marine aquariums started people couldnt keep real corals and if a reefkeeper could keep aiptasia they were doing really well, aiptasia were a desired addition in your tank. not so now adays
