Default interesting lights at a fairly good price

I was at quick grow today getting some 15W 6400K CF (for 13 bucks...plus 26 W for 15 bucks) and the guy was showing me their newest light. It is suppose to be a 10000 K 125 W compact flourescent. It almost looks actinic it is so blue. They are selling them for a buck a watt or so (GST included). They also have 80, 90 100 and 125 W CF.

The larger lights are available in mogul or medium base and are self ballasted.

Just in case someone is looking for some lights. Quick grow also has a south location.

Pieces sells the 100 W 6400K bulb for 135 bucks plus GST..

Default not any more

I was talking to the guys tonight and they only carry the 125 W bulbs now. They are 100 bucks (GST inc). Appaently the lower wattages never sell.

just so you don't make a trip for nothing.

I'm thinking about life span, heat, power consumption - any ideas? Also, how much room would they take up under a canopy, lengthwise?

I'll see if I can get away tomorrow evening - sounds cool, especially the K colour. Wonder how they compare to e-ballasted fixtures for power consumption?

A self ballasted bulb is of course e-ballasted. It would be kinda tough to build a tar ballast on the end of a tube.

That's helpful, but how would it compare to a Workhorse 5 running 2x55W pc bulbs? Similarly efficient?

I will go out on a limb, and say yes. It would take spec sheets to actually compare them, but in general they would have similar efficiencies I am guessing.

Sorry- I'm not sure on terminology with lights- what do these things look like? Are they a finished unit (i.e. something that doesn't look too out of place in a living room!) or just bare bulb, ballast, and wire?

I'm looking for some lighting to sit on a glass top on my corner tank. I'm going to be in Vancouver for the next couple of days and was thinking of picking up a 2 * 96 W power compact set-up at J&L. How do you think these lights at Quick-grow would compare?

Thanks,

Ed

Is there any chance you could pick me up a 96W Actinic bulb at J&L. I have a 2x96W Coralife light, but I don't much like the Actinic bulb that came with it.
