Take a skimmer to the car wash?
Ok, every little voice in my head says this is a bad idea because of the detergent. Every little voice, that is, except for the one that says "...but wouldn't it be cool to get all those little encrusting thingies that you can't reach, cleaned off, and the only thing I can think of that has enough pressure is the car wash .... you could run the nozzle on rinse for like a minute before spraying the skimmer. And then you can take the skimmer to your house and rinse it for a few minutes with the garden hose to be really sure."
What's the group consensus, ReallyBadIdea(tm)? Or has anyone tried this?

I'm going to guess that no-one has tried this.
 But hey, if you need that much pressure...Can't you borrow your neighbour's power washer? That's what I always do.

Sounds like a fine Idea to me. other that the risk of tipping your skimmer over and cracking it or something like that.

Tony,
As luck would have it, I did something similar just last night. I attached a car wash gun ($10 at Candaian Tire), to my hose at home that has a psudo jet stream for car washing and used it on my skimmer (After bracing it so it would not topple over), worked like a charm and that way I did not have to worry about detergents. why don't you just fill it with vinager and let it sit overnight?

It's got about 4 or 5 years of buildup. Skimmer in question is a RSB.
Sitting it in vinegar is one option I was considering for the ait intake since that's an area that's comparatively harder to clean out. I dunno .. it was just an idea and I thought I'd ask if it had ever occured to anyone else.

vinegar is good but it take like forever!
put one cup on muriatic acid 4.99$ a gallon hardware store and fill it up with water for 15-30 minute. he will be brand new in no time! in the same time do all you impeler,valve,check valve.......... do it oustside cause the acid smell realy bad when contact with calcium and be carefull for you eye

While the above is a good idea and I would do the same, always add acid to water as the resulting reaction is exothermic (gives off heat) and can cause spattering if water is added to the acid.
And don't breath the fumes. And don't spill it on your concrete driveway.
