Default So I decided to get back into shape..

y'know, healthier eating, trying to quit smoking (again) cutting back on the parties and going to the gym and getting back into the routine like when I used to play baseball/soccer.

Started off nice and easy, going for jogs, doing light circut training at the gym etc. and was starting to feel pretty damned good.

Well, I just got home from the hospital. I've re-agrivated / partially separated my shoulder and am in one of those fancy schmancy slings (typing with one hand!)

Now, I've already had two operations on my shoulder, and need to get another one, so this might be a good thing in that it should bump me up on the list (I mean really, I was on the machine where all you do is pedal your arms...and I wasn't going fast or using much resistance) but it's definately bad in that I'm out of commisssion for a week at least. Can't tattoo with only one arm and can't do much else either.

I think I might go crazy in this house.

you can still eat low fat and high fibre foods and use the stationary bike 10-20 km per day.

heck my workouts are 5 miles for a run, 15 miles on the bike , and then i work out with weights

yeah Christy...I blame YOU

Mike, I'll start doing light training again tomorrow. Right now I'm frankly hoped up on some Percaset and don't feel like doing much

When I was big into soccer I'd run 5km every day before practice (two a days) so essentially was running 10km a day... not to mention the weight training etc. Man I was in good shape LOL.

A little bump in the rode, but I'm going to do this for real this time. My butt is HUGE

Sounds like me... My wife signed us up for Survivor Bootcamp and last night was the first night.

I can hardly walk today! 220 lb guys can't run 2km on the first day, how do you think I got to be 220 lbs. Not by running!

Before we moved to Bragg Creek, I was a Can fit pro trainer and was going for my Body Pump certification... now I have no gym close by, and my hiking trails are under water. With the brutal cold and crap weather I have been putting on some pounds. I eat clean anyways, but I have always had to work very hard to stay within reasonable shape. Genetics suck sometimes.

I have a myriad of auto immune issues that have come out of remission, and the lack of work I have been suffering is adding to the pile of things to try not to be depressed about. With being out of work, I figured I would do some serious hiking but with the trails in the condition they are in, I often have to turn back with the dogs.

I miss the gym, I miss the sun, and I miss feeling well. I have loads of work to do outside and construction garbage to remove, but with the never ending snow... I cannot get it to the trailer and to the land fill.

It sucks when busy and fit people hit a rut in the road... however we will get through it. Perhaps if the sun would shine again someday, we might be feeling a little more positive.

Sorry to hear about the shoulder Randi. As a fellow broken shoulder person thingy, you have my sympathies/empathies.

I can't do running. I've tried running for several years and each time couldn't escape the conclusion that I just hate it. I used to love it when I was younger, I ran track at school and did moderately OK at a few events, and ran through university. Nowadays though I'm like .. bleh, this sucks. And it doesn't matter how gingerly I treat my knees, my knees hate me these days. When I first went onto this "I'm going to start running again!" kick a few years back, I got arthritis in my knees (combination of shoes, technique, surface choices and well .. 200lbs or so). My older brother, 14 years my senior, who still loves running was all "Well DUH. Maybe you should try losing some weight before you start running." Uhhhhhhhh wow, thanks a lot you JERK. Yeah I'm running for the fun of it, not because I'm trying to .. you know .. LOSE SOME WEIGHT. SHEESH! Runners! They're all cooked in the head, I swear.

I like my bikes these days.

Never was good at any kind of team sport (surprise surprise). I made my dad so proud as a 7 year old when he was assistant coach of the team and me and a bunch of other fellow nerds in training found the sand for the long jump and were playing in the sand rather than chase the ball up and down the field.

Yep, I like biking though.

I was training for running... hated it. I ended up with runner knees and I swear to gawd I had glass shards instead of cartilage!!! Yet I was determined to keep going and it stopped hurting once endorphins kicked in... my gawd was I ever stupid.

I hate running... something very big and very scary better be coming afetr me to make me run... so far nothing out in Bragg has made me feel the need to flee yet. I would lvoe to get a mountain bike since there are some killer trails here that most people don't really know about. However like anything a bike will cost a lot of money which I just do not have right now.

I really fell into a hole this winter and I have felt like garbage so long, I don't recall what feeling good was like.

I look out my window and it just keeps snowing and snowing out here... I will make myself go out there, but cannot really go as far as I would like. Most spots are impassible mud holes and slews now. For all the talk of global warming... all I see is an ice age coming.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder Randi.

Where do you push ink, I've gotten some work done by Paul at Smiling Buddha.

Ah yes Brag Creek, I do miss that neck of the woods I remember fondly ridding my bike from NW Calgary up to Elbow Falls just for something to do on a Sunday.
