Could I have some opinions on whether or not it is good to use a substrate for an sps coral reef tank?

What exactly are you looking to find out? By substrate do you want to know what others use? and/or recommend? I myself have a 5 inch Deep Sand Bed in my 33. and will do the same in my new tank. It is a mix of sugar sand and a few other grades of sand to have a good mix. |

I have received 2 opposite opinions - use no substrate for best results, and use a DSB - it's the only way to go. I am looking for what has worked for other reefers, and what they recommend, with the hopes that I will be able to make an informed decision, using info from hobbyists (who do not want to sell me something, unlike others who have given me advice). |

Fishnut, the only time I would use no substrate is if I had a large sump that could hold a DSB. And then I would still use *some* sand in the main display.
