Default Mag 9.5 noise

Looking at running a Mag 9.5 submerged as a return from the sump for a 75g tank.

What about the noise? Anyone using these pumps? And will it be quieter running submerged?

They are silent pumps. I have a Mag 12 on a skimmer and it is completley silent. I also use to have a Mag 18 and that was quiet aswell.

When I ran a Mag submerged the screws started to rust, that is my only complaint.

When you get a new mag or do servicing on them. coat the screws with silicone and then they do not rust and you can still jam a screwdriver through the silicone to take them out if you need to.

My Mag 12 is a bit noisy, but my aquarium is on a hardwood floor in the corner of the room. I'm told it would be a lot worse if I had anything else! With 90 gallons of water I'm not moving it soon, but next time I'll put some carpet underlay under the stand to try dampen things.

Ed, is yours external or submersed ? They come with a mousepad type rubber pad, if vibration is causing the noise problem for you, those do wonders.

I have a Mag12, and it was quiet for the first month (submerged ), then got noisy. Put that pad on it..it helped a bit, but is still noisy. I find if I gate it off too much, it gets really noisy.
-Maybe I'll clean it tonight (heard that somewhere...hmm ).

Michael
(and thanks for the reminder...Canadian man)
