Anemone Splitting

My anemone just split into 2 and I am reading on the internet that the splitting is caused by stress. Is this true? Since it has split it has also moved to a new location. It was in it's previous location for about a year without moving.

I bought a small GBTA a few months ago from a fellow reefer. Dude told me that his were splitting all the time. It has tripled in size and not split at all since I added it. I bought a RBTA from Golds that is hosting a carribean crab and it moves around quite a bit and does not seem very happy. Yet I seem to have found four very small (dime-sized) babies that look red on a rock near it. I, too, would like some advice on whether or not splitting is caused by stress and thought I would add my anemone experiences as well to this thread. The RBTA does not seem to have split at all, but if it did not, then where are the babies coming from?

They must split in the wild and I doubt it's due to stress? But thats just a thought I don't have any experience with these things?

I think it may be dependant on the individual anemone as well. Some split like crazy, others don't split, while some only split under duress.....

Splitting can occur spontaneously, due to stress, and due to injury. From my experience, the larger it is the more likely splitting will occur. After splitting they usually move and hide for a few days while they reform into whole anemones.

I have BTA's, and they are split regularly. It doesn't seem to be caused by stress, and they do it anywhere in the tank. It is kind of frustrating as it would be nice to see them grow larger.

Mine has split quite a few times as well. I have read that it can be due to stress but they will also split when conditions are good. If the rest of your tank is doing well I wouldn't worry about your anemone(s).

I've had some odd experiances with my green bubble tip. I've had it for a little over 2 years and within the first year it split twice. It has not split since then and is now quite huge (relative to others I've seen) and can stretch out nearly a foot in diameter. I've read that they will split either under stressful conditions or very ideal conditions... I'm not sure which would have been the case with mine. Here is a picture from two months ago.
