![]() just set up a 90 gallon tank. i used to run canister filters. want to get out of this.
i want to set up a sump as my filter. looking at a 20 gallon sump. is this enough. just want to use the sump for filtration and rid of the canisters. any help is appreciated. |

![]() A 20 Gal sump will be fine, I had one on my 90 with no problems

![]() Really, the bigger the better. Sumps help by increasing water volume but with a 20g, you will have maybe 12 gallons extra. Not only that, you will only have a 2' by 1' footprint to work with for your skimmer, heater, macroalgae, return pump, etc. I would go with at least a 3' 33g if not bigger. A bigger sump gives you more options, and a 20g will become cramped very quickly once you add baffles. JMO & JME.
