![]() Just looking for some opinions on this.
I recently bought a used Rena XP3 canister filter for my 33gallon sumpless tank. I am using it to increase flow as well I have the return T-ed off to a phosphate reactor. Before I had a smaller canister filter and had a simmilar set up on the same tank. I use a Remora HOB skimmer and have seen a noticible decrease in the amout of skimate (sp?) that I am getting now that I am using the larger canister filter. I am running 2/3rds of a cup of carbon that is changed every 3 weeks in the canister filter, and that is it. I was running the same amount of carbon in the smaller canister filter before. So why is the protien skimmer pulling less stuff out of my water? Ted.

![]() have you cleaned out the skimmer? i know that the air intake, once cleaned improves my skimmer. and i clean inside the skimmer where the collection cup sits, usually lots of black skimmate.

![]() I clean the air intake on a weekly basis, but have not given the rest of the skimmer a full cleaning for a month or two.
Ted.
