Default Asmodeus's 65 gal MIXED REEF

Well I have started the process in making the stand for the new tank that I'm going to build so I will let you reefer's follow that post.

its a 65 gal mega flow tank made by all glass. 36x18x24
the lighting will be 2x 250's Aqua medic HQI with 12 K phoenix bulbs with electronic ballast.
the sump will be a 75 gal all glass with a center refugium light controlled by a Ice cap 175 ushio bulb.

here are the lights that im getting after xmas. man i'm pumped about getting them too.

here is the basic stand that i build out of 2x4's the out side skirt will be home depot cupbaords that will finish the stand..

here are the cupboard doors that i will be using there will be 4 of them 2 in the front and 1 on each side
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...g?t=1166587339

I went with a basic type of stand since its going to be the open top look with my new lights..

i bought a reno piece of counter top to finish off the top of the stand..

and here is the stand pretty much done with the exception of the doors and a few touch ups..

once i get the Tank from Doug I will have some shots of the tank and stand.

the tank will have major flow 1 tunze 6080 at 2250GPH along with a tunze 6100 with a controller. My lps, gorgonian's Ricordia's and other corals that can't handle the flow will go to Doug along with my Prize fish the lavender Tang..

But i know DOug will keep him fat and healthy too.

Great idea using the cupboard doors. Do you mind me asking how much doors like that cost?

Looking forward to following this thread.

I would love it if Aqua Medic would ship me my lights....I'm giving them about 2 more weeks to deliver and then that's it for them!

Looking at your stand I am a bit concerned. If you were going to skin that stand with plywood, you would be fine...but since it is going to have doors on three sides, I don't think it will have much side-to-side stability. Once it is loaded with the tank and water, that effect will be increased.

You could stabilize it a lot with some diagonal corner brackets of some fashion.

That's looking fantastic asmodeus...The piece of laminate on top will look really good against those cupboard doors.

I agree about the lateral forces possibly being a problem. 65 gallons is still a lot of weight.

Keep up the good work!

AH not to worry there little grasshoppers. I forgot to mention that the doors are just there for looks they will be screwed on from the back of the tank.. SO the tank will have a stable stand

well i got bored and decided to work out in the Garage TAmmy has the day care going and the kids are giving me a headache. ...

Bad Idea its friggin cold out SO i guess it time to work in the spar room. kids are sleeping

Well the stand is finished and now i have a few more pictures to show off. This is the top that i was telling ya about and it fit pretty good.

The next one is with the doors screwed on the front. make sure that you predrill the holes i almost had a mishap where i split the wood, thank god that didn't happen you might of heard me curse a few good words...
Here is the side door that i screwed on to the side. actually i didn't need it but Doug probably would have say "Hey where is the Door.". So that door that you won't see is for Doug.
