Parasitic isopods?

Does anyone have any experience with parasitic isopods? I pulled one off the body/dorsal fin of my clown fish a few days after putting in some new Jakarta live rock.

Your choice's are,
wait and hope there was just one that came in on the rock.
Use your clown as bait and keep picking them off.
or
Run your tank fishless for a couple months

good news is that the owner was able to pull the pod off and the fish survived the ordeal!

Thats what i planed on doing, using my clown as bait and wait a month or so before i decide to add more corals/ fish. I check every morning when the lights are still out, and nothing so far. So im crossing my fingers that it was the only one that hitched its way in.

They can be lured and trapped. It may be more effective than what you are thinking. Besides...if you miss one and it gets a good meal and is able to reproduce...then you have a bigger problem.

I used scallop in a small mothed container at night to trap the ones I found. I put the trap in at night for aabout 10 minutes and then pulled the trap with my finger over the opening. I was able to catch several at a time doing this, and never again saw them on my fish.

Trapping depends on the species,
Some are purley predator.
others are scavenger/predator.
It's definatley worth setting up a trap and seeing what you get.

i might try that, i haven't seen any signs of them in the past few day. That dosent mean they are still there, but i have been looking hard and long. Also the tank is only 20g so it makes my search a little easier. Any DIY traps, or am i going to have to purchase one?
