Default Micro algae in sump

Hi,

I have alot of green hair algae in my main tank. I have a sump with macroalgaes in it but the hair algae is continuing to get worse. I have ripped off a bunch of it and was wondering if i can put it in my sump to prevent more from growing in my main tank. I was also wondering what else I could do to get rid of the green hair algae.

Thanks
