I don't know exactly how long, but MAN Tofino is nice, I really loved going there. My wife and I hit there and then stayed on Thetis island in Feb, cold as it was it was still stunning. And probably good if you like fishin', too

We stayed at Wickanninish Inn a few years ago. It is has a very good reputation as a luxury type place. Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment with a very average room. However the restaurant is excellent with a gorgeous view. So I would recommend staying somewhere else and having lunch at the Wickaninish restaurant.

Tofino is very cool. Long Beach is a wild and beautiful place. IIRC it takes about 3 hours to drive there from Naniamo. I am sure you are thinking of Cathedral Grove which is between Naniamo and Parksville. The other town or place that you mention may be Uculet which is fairly close to Tofino. There are many things to see and do on the wild coast and it is definately worth a visit. I have been there a few times as my family live in Naniamo.
Even though I am not a big fan of Vancouver Island I do make an exception for recommending Tofino/Uculet and even though it is a tourist trap it is definately worth visiting.
Here is a link that I came across.

Cathedral Grove is between Parksville and Port Alberni, which is enroute to Tofino.
Haven't been there by road in a long while, but I think it's about a 5 hour drive to Tofino from Vic.

that's about right. Tofino is definitely the most well known of the two sister towns, despite Ucluelet's larger population. not for long, though. Jack Nicklaus has designed an 18 hole golf course to be built in Ucluelet, and many more resorts are in the works. i spent 6 years in ucluelet and eventually it's going to get to the point where I won't be able to afford to visit! There's a lot to do in Tofino. be sure to go on the hotsprings tour and whalewatching! Ucluelet is worth visiting to walk the Wild Pacific Trail.

Yeah, during the off-season, we went whale watching. It was only about $75/person & we spent several glorious hours out on the water looking at the migrating grey whales, pods of Pacific white sided porpoises, sea lions, seals, eagles, etc. Then we went to the hotsprings for part of the afternoon. It was awesome, especially since we had unseasonably nice weather.

If you go to Ucluelet, it's cheaper to stay than in Tofino & you can go fishing with one of the charters. Then drive out to enjoy Long Beach & Tofino.
