![]() I was just wondering if anyone can comment on the 400W double ended metal halide bulbs. I need to replace two out of four of my metal halide bulbs and I would like to upgrade my ballasts to a PFO ballast as well. I've got two Geismann 250W 20000K DE bulbs running off a dual 250W PFO HQI ballast now and the color is great. Since I'm planning on going for a bigger tank down the road anyways, I'd like to start upgrading to 400W halides now if I can. I noticed the PFO 250W HQI ballast is more expensive than the PFO 400W HQI ballast and I assume it must be better in some way. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

![]() Jason ,the problem is that ,there really isn't any good DE bulb selection for 400W.
I am not sure if you are using a hood or retrofit however the ICE CAP DE pendents ,are the only ones that can be used both for 250W & 400w,this way you have the option. Also for you current set up,if you need more PAR ,what I recomend is the AQUACONNECT 250W 14K DE,using the ballasts you have they will have the same color of GEISMANN 20K DE & will have twice as much par. We just imported these bulbs & they are already @ some stores ,in BC you can buy them from Hidden Reef & Alberta Golds. ![]() I hope this helps

![]() Thanks. That makes sense. Would the 14K rating actually be as blue as the 20K though?
