![]() I can't seem to find the link, but a few months ago there was a company making a "SEIO" type of power head that had the motor on the outside of the glass and the impeller on the inside, has anyone heard when these will be sold to the public?

![]() Yeah, after all $400 was what I paid for my almost new 160g acrylic tank & stand. To spend that on one powerhead.....
Looks like an extremely cool idea though. |

![]() guess it all depends on what’s your goals for you tank is, what you want to grow and how seriously you take this hobby. if you were growing softies and zoos then you wouldn’t need one, if on the other hand you have a 220 gallon tank and are growing sps you need a lot of water movement.

![]() The price is basicaly comparable to Tunzes, or at least within a stone's throw. Which doesn't surprise me, I was thinking the initial claims from last year that they would be an economical alternative seemed a little far fetched to me.
But having said that, if you want to look at a Tunze then there's no reason to not consider one of these. Fairly equivalent idea and fairly equivalent price, at least now we as consumers have more choice. No wires in the tank and and less unit inside the tank are a big plus, however one minus is you can't adjust the direction (i.e., it's perpendicular to the glass) whereas a Tunze can be adjusted. The claim of a wider spread is neat, but the problem with flow in a tank is that you can't have water flowing one way without the same volume of water flowing in the return direction, so I think the difference in flow patterns between one of these and a Tunze would be fairly negligible in that respect. All in all a very promising unit. Of course, it's still not available. These people are using marketing to the extreme, creating enough buzz to ensure the covet factor is huge for when they do finally release the units to sales. I think it will be hard to get one when they do come out. So, I'm thinking for somebody who's setting up a tank right NOW, it may be better to look at Tunze, but for someone who's setting up a tank a year from now, they would be a viable alternative (just my speculation and I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from considering one of these).
