Default A beautiful monster

Well here's a few pics of Mike O'briens monster reef that Christy and I got to drool over last weekend while hang'n out with him and Anthony Calfo all day talk about info overload-these guy's know a thing or two!

A few tidbits of the images below: the tank is an L-shaped 400gl, the large tang is over 13", the millipora tables could seat two with condiments, the torch is about 2ft in diameter with over 100 crowns, and the skimmer is 8ft tall.

One of the most beautiful tanks I have ever seen-all without doing water changes

Mike O'brien is a probably a very conscientious and knowledgeable person. He knows so much about reef chemistry that he is probably doing a lot of stuff ordinary reefkeepers, like most of on this board, haven't a clue to do. His knowledge base allows him to get away without doing water changes. I really wouldn't recommend that we all stop doing water changes and checking water quality and chemistry, though

Great looking tank, btw

Great pics guys. Must be nice to go see it in person. I have only seen the pics of his tank and read most of his threads on it. Another great aquarium following the barebottom, keep it clean approach.

Yeah your totally right Bev, Mike really know's his reeftanks and he keeps things pretty darn clean with the use of UV, a giant skimmer, and a bare bottom to list a few.

In no way was I suggesting that we stop doing water changes, I was simply pointing out that his beautiful reef that has never had a water change, and even tho he doesn't do water changes his water is probly cleaner than most who do regular changes

Surprisingly I don't have any full tank shots either. Although the ones Mike posted in that thread put mine to shame. My camera couldn't deal with all the blue of that lighting.
