![]() Wanting to replace my maxijets with TUNZE powerheads, wondering which one and how many I should get for my 90g reef w/25g sump.
I am leaning towards the Tunze 6060. What do you all think??? Thanks |

![]() I have the 6100 and the 6080 in my 75, and that's really moving some water. You could probably go with 2 6060 pumps, depending on what you have in the tank, size of corals and type of sand on the bottom.

![]() to elaborate on Brad's last statemen, it really depends if
1) you have sand in your tank or is it bare bottom? 2) are you keeping softies, lps, sps? a 6060 in the tank with sand will move a lot of the sand around until they settle wherever the flow is less. softies and lps might not appreciate that type of flow in a 90 but if you have a bare bottom and growing acros, go wild with the 6100 and 6080s, they will keep the crap off the bottom for your skimmer to export.

![]() I have about 1-2 inches of sand in my tank but just in front, behind my rock is bare.
I only have LPS, clams, shrooms, zoos that sort of thing...no fuzzy sticks for now. So a 6060 placed at the top of tank would still move the sand around??? Thanks for the replies |

![]() I had sand in the 120g (4" at least) and ran two 6110 tunze's in there. Sand moved for the first day only, after that it settled down.
Currently have 3 6110's in the 90g, will be adding a 4th soon ![]() Course, I like fuzzy sticks (tm). |

![]() My 24" tall tank is using a 6100 with fine sand. The sand is not flying around. One could also set the pump at a lower flow rate if needed.

![]() I guess that since mine is only 18" deep, and I put the streams in the rear corners pointing at the opposite front corners is the reason I can't use sand. It's all in the where you put them I suppose.

![]() I had one 6060 in my 120 gallon mixed reef, LPS and softies/shrooms.
I ditched the 6060 because it created too much current. Soft corals would be blown over sideways. Frags I tried to glue in place would get blown around. I switched to a Seio but it was too much flow as well, now I just use my return pump for flow and things are fine. IMO the streams are good for SPS probably but too much for a mixed reef. |
