Default help fitting an abs float valve to a bulkhead

ok i have a 1 1/2" bulkhead in the sidewall of my sump. in the past i have had a 1" threaded pvc cap screwed into this this with a diy hole drilled into this and the float valve screwed into the cap. this is a problem because it isnt a snug fit and i basicaly have to rely on silicone to keep things from leaking. its a hassle to take all this apart to clean the valve. is there an easier way to attach a standard kent abs float valve to a 1 1/2 bulkhead? i think the thread on screw for the valve is 5/8"

is there such a thing as a 1" male thread with a 5/8's inch hole in it?

yup there is, take it to a plumbing supply store and you are looking for a bushing from 1.5 male to 5/8 female (are you sure it is 5/8th, thats not a normal size thats why I say take it with you.)

you prob need 1 1/2 pipe thread to 5/8 's NC ( this would have to be made you can't buy it ) if I am picturing on what you want to do as the threaded part on the float is a straight thread with a standered nut to hold it in place and you want to sick it through the 1 1/2 cap right. If you pick up a threaded 1 1/2 plug ( I think they are thicker) you can drill and tap it with a 5/8 tap. Put a nut, washer and a rubber washer on both sides and this should seal it up. Use a nylone (sp) or SS washers and nuts
I will try to find some pics

dabbler thats what i have now! it seems kinda ghetto if you ask me, i thought there might have been a better solution. actually the abs thread is tapered, it starts 5/8 at the bottom and slowly gets larger near the top.

If it mesures 5/8 and it is tapered then it is most likely 1/2 pipe thread

For a float switch (KENT THAT IS ) you need a 5/8" hole for the switch so i guessing it's 1/2" or 3/8.

mike why not get a rubber gasket for the float switch to where the piece connects to the PVC.
