![]() I am looking to buy a reef setup. Be it new or used.
If I go used, and there is an established tank in place, and it is to be moved, what are the chances that everything will survive, and how much stress will be on the tank inhabitants. Furthermore, how can you move tank inhabitants, rock sand water, etc with minimal downtime and least amount of stress for them? Any experiences? Thanks |

![]() I moved a 135 G Reef 2 years ago with no problems. Just have a well planned out approach. I used a nimber of rubber maid containers for the rock, sand, and corals. I pumped the water out int 45 G food grade drums which were in the back of my pickup truck in the garage. Moved the tank. put in place and pumped the water from the truck through a garden hose to the tank. placed the rock and corals put the fish in and turned on the power. Once all way running about a week later I rearranged the rock to its permanent structures. This was all done with out any losses in the middle of winter.

![]() i moved my tank across town in houston 100 deg weather. it was a huge pain in the ass carrying a 90 and everything that goes with it up 3 flights of stairs! everything went great as far as the tank was concerned didn’t loose anything. i would be wary though moving something with a dsb, i would suspect loosening up the bed would cause some havoc. with careful planning and lots of prepped water on hand it shouldn’t be to bad.
edit.. oh i should add that we just moved all the rock, fish and coral in used salt buckets. we kept about 40 gallons of the old water and just used new water to make up the diffrence. keep the lights out for the next day and within a few days everyone was humming along. |

![]() Last year I moved four tanks in one month, all went extremly well. Lot's of prep work and a few helping hands will make the move a success
