Default foam under tanks

Is it required to have foam between tank and stand, and how many people do?
The stand is the recommend one for the tank (oceanic bow series)
Home depot has 1/2 inch thick not 1/4 pink styro.

How big is your tank? I think the main reason for foam is to help level out larger tanks, and to correct any imperfections in the stand. I have a 54 gallon corner tanks from Oceanic and I don't use foam, but it couldn't hurt.
