![]() I was just wondering, if you're going to be building your own sump out of acrylic, is there a better design than basically a normal fish tank with baffles? What's the advantage in building your own sump out of acrylic instead of just buying a 70G tank (which is about what I need) and putting glass baffles in it? Is it better to cut holes in the side of the sump for your overflow to flow in to rather than just have the water falling into the tank?

![]() hi jaws,
the only reson i am building a custom sump out of acrilic is becouse my stand is too low for a 33gal tank (which i actually have sitting in my house not being used) ![]() but since the stand can not be replaced without a huge hassle, i have decided to build a custome sump/fuge out of acrilic. i can make a 30gal sump/fuge out of one piece of 1/4" 4X8' acrilic which will cost about $115-120. i will also have a bunch left over to make DIY skimmer. ![]() i have all the tools i need to do this and i love to build stuff as well, so i am quite looking forword to this project. ![]()
