Default Something attacked my starfish :s

Something attacked my star fish last night

He's been in the tank three days and was doing fine.
Woke up to this but he's still alive and walking :s
Should I take him out ?

I thought starfish have a spiny fibre skin that only Harlys could penetrate

Sometimes injuries like that have nothing to do with an attack and are the pre-cursors to the starfish disolving.

Granted it doesn't look like yours is too far gone. Maybe it will loose the leg, maybe not. Either way I'd recommend checking your salinity levels as I've seen this happen with high SGs; over 1.028.

A lot of people keep their reef tanks at 1.025 ~ 1.026 salinity with no ill affects on starfish. Any higher would be dangerous to lots of things not just starfish. There could be many possibilities on what happened. In my opinion that injury doesn't look like its been attacked by something. I'd keep an eye out and see how it is doing, maybe check on it a few hours after the lights turn off.

I checked on him a hour later and it rotted into his belly. Gave him a ice Bath and he went to sleep in seconds ... But for his efforts he found me a frag I lost four months ago in the sand. Found its little heads popping up . Not in the best shape for being covered in sand for months but there already opening up on my flag rack
