![]() So this little "relationship" involves my Blenny and Male lyretail anthias....
These 2 have always seemed to be "pals" well the Anthias thinks the blenny is his pal. Whenever he would see the blenny out and eating algae off the glass, the anthias would go join him and they eat algae off the glass side by side. This morning I woke up to check on my tank just after the blue lights come on and I see my blenny hanging on a rock near the front, of coarse hes a really shy fish and swims away if I get any closer to watch him, so I stuck around just to see him. Next thing I know my anthias swims over and starts swimming like a Male clownfish trying to please his female, and rubbing himself on the blenny. ![]() He beats up my damsel, protects the clowns if the damsel gets near them, and is in love with my blenny? I've had these 2 for a few months now. Well I tried to get pictures of these 2... dont know what you can see, didn't want to get too close and scare away the blenny. The blenny is in every photo here, little hidden in the first 2 pictures, behind him in pic 1 and you can see his eye to the left of the anthias in pic 2. Why are my fish so ... odd... Honestly this cant be normal... is it? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() PS What kind of blenny is he/she anyway? Solid black, white/clear tail. But will change colour to marble grey at night and will randomly have white pigment spots on him for a few hours then goes back to all black. Hard to convince the family that my fish isn't going to die when he changes colour like this. Was sold as a Sailfin blenny at J&L but just doesn't look like what I see on google, combtooth maybe? ![]() |

![]() Anthias and blennies seem to have a funny relationship. I the wild some blennies, such as Midas blennies, will actually change their coloring and school with Anthias. First time I've seen a combtooth/anthias "pair" but I have heard of this with other blennies and anthias.
I think I have the same blenny as you. Tried searching for hours and the best ID I had was a chestnut blenny. |

![]() See I think that would make more sense, especially since the midas blenny is more of a meat eater, change colour join other meat eating fish. Not an anthias copying an algae eating blenny then rubbing himself all over the blenny... I'll have to video it next time I catch them doing this.
My fish is weird ![]() Chestnut blenny doesn't seem quite right. Not my photos (yeah right like he would let me photograph him) I saw him at the store, thought he was cute, went home, researched different blennies to make sure I could take care of him depending on what he was, went back the next day, asked what they sold him as (more for price) figured that wasn't what he really was, then he came home. So like him, except 5x fatter. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...71&pcatid=2671 http://www.fishtanksandponds.co.uk/g...s/wprp2hqn.jpg http://www.webartspk.com/fishnbirds....oth-blenny.jpg |
